A popular home cook has shared an unusual way to enjoy eggs on toast for breakfast. 

Sydney foodie, Ayeh Manfre, says grating a boiled egg is a ‘game changer’ for anyone with a love-hate relationship with eggs, like herself. 

In a now-viral TikTok video, Ayeh demonstrated how to make the tasty morning meal served with avocado and pickled onions and began by toasting a slice of sourdough bread until golden brown.  

She said the grated egg resembled the look of cheese and tastes ‘less eggy’. 

The recipe was inspired by US foodie Sarah Thomas-Drawbaugh, better known as ‘Healthyishfoods’ on TikTok, who originally shared the clever food hack.

‘I don’t know what it is, but I have a love-hate relationship with eggs – but this hack is a game changer!’ Ayeh said in the clip. 

Next, she adds a drizzle of spicy mayonnaise to the toast and places thinly sliced avocado on top. 

Ayeh then grates one boiled egg using a microplane grater on top of the avocado, she says this step makes it look like it’s snowing. 

She tops her grated egg with pickled onions and sprinkles over some bagel seasoning for extra flavour.

Ayeh finishes her breakfast toast off with a generous drizzle of olive oil ‘for good luck’ and digs in. 

‘It looks so pretty and like it is topped with cheese,’ the popular foodie said. 

Ayeh’s grated egg toast gained overnight attention with more than 83,000 views and comments from fellow foodies who can’t wait to try the hack themselves.

Recipe: grated boiled egg breakfast toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 Bread slice
  • Spicy mayonnaise
  • 1/2 Avocado, sliced
  • 1 Boiled egg
  • Pickled onions
  • Bagel seasoning 
  • Olive oil 

Method: 

  1. Toast a slice of sourdough bread until golden brown. 
  2. Add a drizzle of spicy mayonnaise to the toast and place thinly sliced avocado on top. 
  3.  Grate grates one boiled egg using a microplane grater on top of the avocado.
  4.  Top the grated egg with pickled onions and sprinkle over bagel seasoning.
  5.  Finish with a generous drizzle of olive oil.
