Foodworks supermarket Melbourne: Shopkeepers fight off knifeman by stabbing him with scissors

Wild moment a brave elderly shopkeeper couple fight back against a knife-wielding robber… by repeatedly stabbing at his head with scissors before he runs out the door empty handed

  • Desperate drug addict sentenced to more than three jail over armed attack
  • The 43-year-old man stormed Foodworks supermarket in Victoria last year
  • Owners, both in their 60s, defended their store and managed to fight him off

Two desperate shopkeepers have fought off a knife-wielding maniac who tried to rob their store, refusing to hand over any cash and stabbing the crazed man in the head with scissors.

Shaun James Taylor, 43, stormed the Foodworks supermarket on Johnston Street in Collingwood, Melbourne, on November 3 last year, brandishing a blade and saying: ‘I’ll kill you if you don’t give me money.’

But Security footage shows the brave 68-year-old woman behind the counter reaching for a pair of scissors and plunging the make-shift weapon into the man’s head and neck multiple times as the armed robber tussles with her and rips open the register.

The two shaken shop owners returned back to work at their Foodworks supermarket the following day

As the chaos unfolds in front of terrified shoppers, the woman’s husband is alerted by the alarm and runs over to protect her.

The 67-year-old swats at the armed robber and briefly puts him in a headlock before he is stabbed three times.

Despite the knife wounds he continues to put up a fight and tackles Taylor to the ground, narrowly avoiding a blade which came just millimetres from his face.

Empty handed and embarrassed, the thug is forced to flee the store without a cent.

As he’s seen running out the door, the 67-year-old woman hands her husband a blunt weapon and he briefly chases after him.

Despite the horror ordeal, the couple were back at work the very next day.

The Victorian County Court heard on Wednesday that Taylor handed himself into police just 24-hours after the attack when he felt ‘guilty’ about what he’d done, the Herald Sun reported.

It was also revealed that he was homeless at the time, not taking his anti-psychotic medication and targeted the store because he needed money to feed his addiction to the drug ice.

He pleaded guilty to armed robbery and recklessly causing injury and was sentenced to more than three years in jail.

He will eligible for parole in 18 months.
