On August 5, a jealous Monckton attained his partner’s social media account passwords and began going through her phone.

The court heard Monckton, who played for the Grafton Ghosts last year, also demanded his ex-girlfriend keep her phone’s GPS tracking on all the time.

Upset by his allegations, the 25-year-old’s ex-girlfriend tried to leave his Southport home, prompting Monckton to hit her in the face with her own phone.

When the woman left the next morning she turned off her GPS and ignored Monckton, the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

Three days later Monckton tried to reconcile their relationship.

‘That’s ok. I’ll come down there and slit your mother’s throat in front of you and take everyone you have ever loved from you,’ Monckton told the woman over the phone when she declined.
