Footy commentator Braith Anasta caught up in fire extinguisher drama at Sydney hotel – as police arrest a man at the scene

  • NRL 360 co-host was at Robin Hood Hotel in Sydney’s east
  • Event was being staged on behalf of whisky brand Fireball
  • Another patron set off a fire extinguisher, guests left soaked

Former NRL star-turned-commentator Braith Anasta has shown he hasn’t lost his trademark aggression following an incident at a popular Sydney pub on Friday night.

The co-host of NRL 360 attended a Footy Finals party on behalf of popular whisky brand Fireball at the Robin Hood Hotel in Waverley when chaos unfolded.

In bizarre scenes, a patron pulled a fire extinguisher off the wall at about 8.30pm and started spraying the front bar, covering stunned guests at the event.

Daily Mail Australia showbiz reporter Ali Daher was in attendance, and witnessed Anasta stop the man – believed to be aged in his late twenties – as he attempted to flee the scene with one of his mates.

The Bulldogs 2004 premiership winner was having none of it, forcibly grabbing the man by the collar and performing a citizen’s arrest until the police arrived.

Other celebrities in attendance included TV personality Dom Littrich from Inspired Unemployed, plus reality TV stars Jackson Garlick and Dean Wells.

Anasta initially thought the antics may have been part of the night.

‘When it happened I was at the bar… I saw the bloke pick up the fire extinguisher and I thought, “Surely he isn’t going to spray that?”‘ he told Daily Mail Australia.

‘He sprayed it at everyone, people were soaked, their clothes were ruined.

‘Everyone was shocked and disappointed, it ruined what was a great night.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted NSW Police for comment.

Earlier this week Anasta posed at Coogee Oval ahead of the launch of the inaugural Fireball Bubbler, which dispenses ice-cold cinnamon whisky shots instead of water.

‘Nothing beats an electric game day with the crew, but the massive queues and mid-strength beers can really take the buzz out of it,’ Anasta said.

‘The Fireball Bubbler is a game-changer.’

Anasta made his NRL debut in 2000 for Canterbury, and won a title four years later.

The five-eighth – who also represented NSW and Australia – then enjoyed a successful stint at the Roosters before retiring from the sport in 2014.
