Footy great Braith Anasta uses two hilarious words to describe himself after his brave act during shocking pub drama

  •  NRL 360 co-host restrained a man at a Sydney pub on Friday
  •  Man had sprayed the front bar of pub with a fire extinguisher

Former NRL star-turned-commentator Braith Anasta has jokingly referred to himself as ‘Clark Kent’ after he restrained a man who tried to escape a pub after a shocking incident on Friday night.

The co-host of NRL 360 attended a Footy Finals party on behalf of popular whisky brand Fireball at the Robin Hood Hotel in Sydney’s eastern suburbs when the chaos unfolded.

In bizarre scenes, a patron seemed to pull a fire extinguisher off the wall at about 8.30pm and started spraying the front bar, covering stunned guests at the event.

Daily Mail Australia showbiz reporter Ali Daher was in attendance, and witnessed Anasta stop the man – believed to be aged in his late twenties – as he attempted to flee the scene with one of his mates.

The Bulldogs 2004 premiership winner was having none of it, forcibly grabbing the man by the collar in exclusive footage.

Anasta has since shared a conversation he had with a producer at Fox Sports, in which the pub incident is mentioned.

The producer jokes in the text message exchange that Anasta doesn’t have time to talk about lunch because he has ‘crime to fight’.

Anasta fires back: ‘I’m just taking my superman suit off and back into Clark Kent but don’t tell anyone’.

Clark Kent, of course, is the secret identity of crime-fighting superhero Superman.

Anasta told the Daily Mail after the incident that he initially thought the antics may have been part of the night.

‘When it happened I was at the bar… I saw the bloke pick up the fire extinguisher and I thought, “Surely he isn’t going to spray that?”‘ he said.

‘He sprayed it at everyone, people were soaked, their clothes were ruined.

‘Everyone was shocked and disappointed, it ruined what was a great night.’

Despite initial reports Anasta detained the prankster until the cops arrived, a police spokesperson clarified the man ‘had already left the scene’ when officers got there.

Other celebrities in attendance included TV personality Dom Littrich from Inspired Unemployed, plus reality TV stars Jackson Garlick and Dean Wells.

A NSW Police spokesperson said on Saturday: ‘About 8.30pm Friday (13 September 2024), officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to a hotel on Bronte Road, Waverley, following reports a man had sprayed the contents of a fire extinguisher inside the business.

‘Police arrived to find the man had already left the scene. The hotel was evacuated but there have been no injuries reported.

‘Police have commenced inquiries into the circumstances around the incident.

‘As inquiries are ongoing, anyone with information is urged to contact Waverley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.’
