An AFL legend disgruntled with the The Footy Show’s new format is threatening to walk away from the popular Thursday night fixture.

Both versions of The Footy Show in Melbourne and Sydney are undergoing major changes for 2018 after nearly 24 years on air.

However in Melbourne, one AFL legend on the weekly panel show is so annoyed he is threatening to quit the long-running Nine Network program.

Sam Newman, who was briefly sacked in 2008 over a sexist skit, is staying put with the show

Richmond's Alex Rance, who only joined in 2016, is also staying with Nine's The Footy Show

Sam Newman, a controversial former Geelong ruckman who was briefly sacked in 2008, for dressing as a prostitute to insult a female journalist, is staying put.

So is Richmond’s Alex Rance, who joined the show 2016, and former Geelong goal-scoring prodigy Billy Brownless.

That leaves Hawthorn legend Shane Crawford who is threatening to quit The Footy Show mid-contract, The Herald Sun reports.

The 43-year-old Brownlow medalist is reportedly upset with the downgrading of his role on the panel show hosted by Eddie McGuire, Rebecca Maddern and Sam Newman.

Crawford, who is under contract with Nine until the end of 2018, plays a comic relief role on the studio show handing out prizes to lucky viewers.
