NRL star Josh Addo-Carr has posted his support for Palestinians amid the major conflict between Israel and Hamas, linking their struggle to that of Indigenous Australians.

Militant group Hamas – recognised as a terrorist organisation by Australia – fired at least 3,500 rockets into Israel before armed militants stormed towns and killed, injured and captured civilians during a major Jewish holiday on Saturday.

In response, the Israeli army said on Monday that it hit more than 500 targets in the Gaza Strip in overnight retaliatory strikes on the impoverished and blockaded Gaza Strip, an enclave of 2.3million people.

Officials there reported at least 413 Palestinian deaths.

Addo-Carr took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to show his support for Palestine and connect their struggle to that of Indigenous Aussies.

The Bulldogs star shared an image of the Indigenous flag next to the Palestinian flag alongside the caption, ‘ONE STRUGGLE ONE FIGHT’.

Beneath the Indigenous flag are the words ‘LAND BACK’ and the logo of the Black People’s Union (BPU), accompanied by Arabic writing.

The BPU are a self-described ‘revolutionary organisation that aims to empower Indigenous people in Australia through the pursuit of full self-determination and sovereignty’.

In no way does Daily Mail Australia infer that Addo-Carr supports the shocking attack by Hamas on Saturday morning.

Addo-Carr’s post comes just days after footy great Sonny Bill Williams shared and liked a post saying the Hamas militants who attacked Israel should be called freedom fighters instead of terrorists.

That saw him cop a furious broadside from radio star Ray Hadley, who said the ex-NRL and All Blacks star should be sacked by Channel Nine over his stance.

Addo-Carr is a proud Indigenous player who has never shied away from showing support for his culture, even when it has caused him to be attacked online.

In 2022, he was subject to a barrage of shocking racial abuse from an online troll after he uploaded a family photo on Australia Day.

Addo-Carr shared the pic of himself with his young daughter and son, all wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the Aboriginal flag.

‘Happy Survival Day #mypeoplemypeople,’ he captioned the photo.

That same year Addo-Carr was named as captain of the Indigenous All Stars side for their match against the Maori All Stars.

Addo-Carr told media at the time just how proud it made him to be leading out his Indigenous teammates.

‘Never in a million years did I think I would be a captain, especially in your cultural side,’ he said.

‘I was always inspired to be a player, but to be a captain and lead the boys out, you can’t explain the feeling.’
