A footy player has been reported after accidentally kicking a ball into the head of a teenage umpire over the weekend.

Sandon Page, a forward for East Perth, left goal umpire Muneerah Foster concussed during Saturday’s club reserves match against the Demons.

Video footage from the match showed the 22-year-old streaming towards an unguarded goal after a 50m penalty was awarded before aiming the ball at Foster’s head.

She was able to stand and leave the ground following the episode. Page was visibly apologetic and assisted her.

However, he has been reprimanded following a match review panel probe, being handed an official warning.

Page’s club said they accepted and understood the league’s decision.

‘We send our best wishes to Muneerah and wish her a speedy recovery,’ a club spokesperson said.

‘The incident was a really bizarre one, but we understand that the umpires must be protected at all times. Incidental contact with the umpires is often met with MRP consequences.

‘Although Sandon did not intend to make contact with the kick, the incident saw the umpire suffer a serious injury.

‘He’s a really good person and showed great care in following up post-match to see how she was doing.’

East Perth went on to win the game by nine points and sit fifth on the reserve league ladder.

Page joined from Subiaco in 2022 and has played eight league games for the club. He contributed 12 disposals and seven marks on Saturday.

Footy fans will remember Foster, 18, after she made headlines when she became a goal umpire at just 15 years of age in 2021.

Foster, who is Muslim, has ambitions to officiate at the highest level and shared her pride in representing women in the industry.

‘I definitely liked the atmosphere. It was nice and it was inviting,’ Foster said in 2021.

‘I didn’t want to play footy but this was something for me to do on weekends, to earn money.’
