Footy star Taylan May spends the night in a cell as he’s arrested for allegedly breaching AVO after being accused of punching his wife in the face

  • Legal dramas continue for ex-Penrith Panther star
  • May, 23, is due to face court in Sydney on Sunday

Former Penrith NRL star Taylan May was arrested and refused bail after being charged with allegedly breaching an apprehended domestic violence order on Saturday afternoon.

The ex-Panthers back spent the night in jail and is due to front court on Sunday after he was arrested at Emerton Village in Sydney’s far west.

‘About 2.50pm (Saturday 24 August 2024), officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command were called to a mall on Jersey Road, Emerton, after reports of a man allegedly breaching an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO),’ NSW Police said in a statement to Daily Mail Australia.

‘The 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic).

‘He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 25 August 2024).’

May was barred from playing under the NRL’s no-fault stand-down policy after he was arrested in May and charged with punching his wife in the face during an argument on April 8 this year.

He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of stalking or intimidating another person with the intention of causing them to fear physical or mental harm.

May pleaded not guilty to all charged when he appeared before Penrith Local Court on May 28, and was due to front the court on March 10 next year before the alleged incident that led to his arrest on Saturday.

The first charges came after he signed a two-year extension worth $1.2million with the Panthers in March.

May had a victory in the Federal Court in June as he won an injunction to stop the club staging a second hearing to discuss his sacking.

The Panthers had issued him with a show cause notice in relation to prior incidents that are understood to be unrelated to the alleged domestic violence charges, instead stemming from a list of alleged off-field indiscretions since his NRL debut in 2021.

Penrith parted ways with him in July after both parties agreed to a confidential settlement.

He found himself in the news again last week as former Penrith star Josh Mansour made a heartfelt apology after announcing plans to release an interview with May as part of the Let’s Trot podcast.
