Bunnings shoppers would be familiar with loudspeaker announcements that security was needed at a certain part of the store – but a former worker has revealed they might not be what they seem.
A Queensland TikTok user who calls himself Relay recently shared a clip claiming that calls over the PA such as ‘security to section C’ were merely a deterrent for shoplifters.
‘The secret was that there was no ‘section C’ and there was sometimes no security,’ he said.
He claimed that store staff members would make the announcements themselves, but eventually they were added to the store’s background radio station.

TikTok user Relay (pictured left) said when he worked at Bunnings the loudspeaker announcements such as ‘security to section C’ were only designed to deter shoplifters
‘We actually had the same announcements every day during the same songs, and you could predict them after you heard them for a while,’ Relay said.
The TikTok user worked at the store from 2002 to 2007 in southeast Queensland and could not say whether other locations also had the same procedure or whether the practice was still even in place.
He also claimed that the ‘beat it by 10 per cent lower price guarantee’ could only ever be applied once to each product.
This is because as soon as it was brought to a store’s attention, the price would be lowered by headquarters.
In a statement Bunnings said their lowest prices guarantee was at the core of it’s business which its store’s honoured in a ‘no fuss’ way.
Bunnings said temporary prices were quickly brought in to match competitors for the benefit of all customers.
He also said the beat the lowest price by 10 per cent guarantee only applied once because headquarters would immediately lower the shelf price on that product (file image)
