Former England, Aston Villa and Manchester City star Gareth Barry announces retirement from football aged 39 after becoming the Premier League’s record appearance holder

The Premier League’s record appearance holder Gareth Barry has officially retired from football at the age of 39.

Barry, who played an astonishing 653 times in the Premier League, featured for likes Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Brom during a distinguished career.

During his long-serving career in the top-flight, Barry netted 53 goals and produced 64 assists. 

The midfielder also featured 53 times for England between 2000 and 2012, scoring three goals in total.
