A former Florida police officer has been arrested for getting into a car crash while allegedly driving drunk on Sunday.
Former Ormond Beach officer Brenton Hodge, 55, was arrested on Sunday afternoon after deputies found him with bloodshot eyes, reeking of alcohol, and beer cans littered on his car floor.
When cops tried to arrest him, he tried to sneak a bag of marijuana down his pants right in front of the officers trying to escort him away.
He now faces charges of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana, according to jail records.
Hodge had served as an officer in Ormond Beach from 1997 to 2016. He retired after 19 years on the force in lieu of termination for a violation of agency policy, according to WESH2.

As he was questioned Hodge said he was a retired cop and flashed his badge

His black car was severely bashed in the rear and side and the driver’s seat air bag had deployed.
Video of the incident from a deputy’s body cam shows Hodge in the front seat under a dangling air bag.
Hodge claimed he was hit as he was trying to make a U-turn at the intersection of US 1 South and Seminole Woods Boulevard in Palm Coast.
He’s seen in the beginning of the clip dumping out a cloth cooler leaving beer cans on the floor.
‘Where were you drinking at? This car reeks of booze man,’ the deputy on duty says to Hodge.
Hodge explains he had drank at lunch and the car smelled of alcohol because he had just taken his trash out.
‘I appreciate your service but you were just in a bad crash and you reek of alcohol,’ a deputy responding to the crash told Hodge as he pointed the blame to the other vehicle involved
When he was told to exit the car he tried to sneak a bag of marijuana in his pants
Cops caught up and wrenched the bag out of his hands
The cops were shocked with his not-so-sneaky attempt to grab the weed saying, ‘Retired cop, huh? Real great buddy, thanks for your service’
The deputy continues to fire questions at him, and Hodge responds, ‘I know where you’re going. I’m a retired cop’ as he flashes his badge and wallet.
‘I appreciate your service but you were just in a bad crash and you reek of alcohol,’ the officer said.
Then he says ‘But I wasn’t moving! I was stopped!’
Firefighters and cops then have him exit the car, but before he fully gets out he tries to sneakily grab a plastic bag of marijuana from under the driver’s seat.
Cops catch him in the act shouting, ‘Woah, woah, woah are you kidding me? You’re trying to shove weed down your pants, are you kidding me?’
‘Retired cop, huh? Real great buddy, thanks for your service,’ the cop adds.
‘As a former law enforcement officer, he should be well aware of the dangers of drinking and driving,’ Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement.
‘It is disappointing that he thought he could manipulate the situation by showing our deputies his retired badge and trying to stuff his drugs down his pants. None of his tactics worked,’ Staly added.
The other driver involved in the accident was hospitalized for his injuries.
Hodge is being held at the Flagler County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail, according to Liveleak.
