Former Ghana goalkeeper shows little sympathy for Egypt’s complaints about lasers shone in faces

A former Ghana goalkeeper has told Egypt’s players ‘karma exists’ after they had lasers shone in their faces during their heartbreaking World Cup play-off qualifier defeat by Senegal.

FIFA are investigating the World Cup qualifier, which ended in a penalty shootout marred by Mohamed Salah and his team-mates being targeted by lasers.

During the shootout, Egypt players and their goalkeeper had green lasers shone at them, and it was enough to put Salah off his game, with the Liverpool star missing his spot kick in the shootout.

The players being targeted with lasers also occurred during the 120 minutes of action, but there has been little sympathy shown by Fatau Dauda towards the Pharaohs. 

The 36-year-old – who made 26 appearances for the Black Stars – posted a picture of him on Twitter also having lasers shone on his face by Egypt fans during a 2014 World Cup qualifier in November 2013. 

Accompanying the image, Dauda wrote: ‘Wossop Egypt, heard you are complaining about laser…..? Karma exists.’

Senegal meanwhile won 3-1 on penalties to book their place in Qatar. But a bitter fallout has ensued, with Egypt making accusations about their treatment in Dakar.

They filed a complaint which claims players – especially Salah – were racially abused, had objects thrown at them during the warm-up and their bus attacked.

An Egyptian FA statement said: ‘The national team have been exposed to racism with offensive signs in the stands against the Egyptian players in general, and Mohamed Salah in particular.’

FIFA vowed to examine match reports before deciding on the next steps.

‘FIFA is currently in the process of analysing the official match reports of the FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Senegal and Egypt,’ their statement read.

The relevant information included in the match reports will be evaluated by the competent disciplinary bodies before deciding on the next steps to be taken.’

Salah also had to be escorted off the pitch by security guards after he was targeted by Senegal fans in the aftermath of their decisive World Cup qualifying win.

The Reds forward was initially confronted by a Senegal fan as they invaded the pitch to celebrate at full-time but security guards managed to pull him aside.

But as Salah made his way towards the tunnel, he was then targeted with several objects thrown from above in the stands at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium in Dakar.

Salah’s security team did all they could to protect and shield him from the debris as supporters had a clear shot at the former Chelsea and Roma star in the tunnel area.
