A former Israeli prime minister on Monday warned the U.S. it would face the consequences if it failed to fully back the war against Hamas and radical Islamic terrorism. ‘We’re fighting total evil, and we might be imperfect, but we’re doing everyone’s job and the world should back Israel,’ Naftali Bennett (pictured) told CNN. ‘Otherwise, everyone’s gonna face it. These zombie murderers are gonna come right over here.’
President Joe Biden threw US support behind Israel in the wake of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel that killed at least 1200 people. But with the death toll in Gaza rising above 30,000 people and warnings of famine circulating, he has urged Israel to show more restraint.
A report on Monday suggested Biden is considering choking off military aid if the Israeli Defense Forces launch a large-scale invasion of Rafah, one of the last places in the Gaza Strip where families have been able to escape the fighting.
Bennett, who was prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022, said he hoped that was not a real threat. ‘We’re fighting the war against radical Islam,’ he said.
‘Hamas is not about peace, it’s not about the Palestinians, it’s about radical Islam, the forefront of radical Islam, and mark my words, if we are prevented from defeating radical Islam in Gaza, you’re going to meet radical Islam again here in New York, you’re going to meet it in London on the streets, you’re going to meet it across the world. Every Islamic radical terrorist is looking at what’s going on in Gaza and that’s their litmus test – do we have the resolve? And we knew it’s gonna be tough. We knew that. But you can’t stop in the middle just because it’s tough,’ Bennett continued.
Bennett has been touring US news studios to deliver a message that Israel is fighting the West’s war against terrorism and to bolster support. Yet focus has shifted to an unfolding humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel’s bombardment and blockade.
On Tuesday an aid ship loaded with 200 tons of food set sail from Cyprus for Gaza to test whether a sea corridor could be used to deliver help.
Attempts by the US, Qatar and Egypt to broker a cease-fire and hostage release ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan failed. In the meantime, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made clear he intends to take the fight into Rafah and that he will not stop until Hamas is destroyed.
He expressed anger Monday after Biden talked about an assault on Rafah crossing a ‘red line.’ ‘Look, it’s either Israel or Hamas. There’s no middle way. I mean, we have to have that victory,’ he told ‘Fox and Friends.’
‘We can’t have three quarters of a victory. We can’t have two thirds of a victory because Hamas will reconstitute itself with these four battalions in Rafah, reconquer the Gaza Strip, and do the October 7 massacre over and over and over again. And for us, Israel, not merely for me, but the people of Israel that’s a red line. We can’t let Hamas survive,’ Benjamin Netanyahu said.
