A former Liverpool star is at risk of being sacked from his managerial job, according to a report.
The midfielder, who enjoyed seven years at Anfield, ventured into coaching upon his retirement having both played and coached in his homeland of the Netherlands throughout his career.
All is not going swimmingly at his current team, however, with the Belgian side rooted to the bottom of the league table with just two points from the first 10 games of the new season.
They are winless with eight defeats from those games, and are six points adrift of the next worst team, as well as already nine points away from the club who occupy the final position in the table that would be safe from relegation.
According to AD, there had been a board meeting booked at Beerschot for Tuesday to discuss the future of ex-Reds man Dirk Kuyt, which has, fortunately for the 44-year-old, been postponed.
A former Liverpool star is close to being sacked as manager of his club, according to a report
Dirk Kuyt is in charge of Belgian Pro League side Beerschot, who are yet to win this season
The Dutch midfielder made nearly 300 appearances in seven years as a player for Liverpool
Kuyt took over at Beerschot in 2023 when the club were in the second division and aiming for promotion to the top flight.
He signed just a one-year contract but secured the desired promotion at the first time of asking, though his first campaign in the Belgian Pro League has been a struggle.
The Antwerp club have conceded a division-high 27 goals already this term – at least seven more than any other side – and have scored just eight, which is the second-worst in the division.
According to the report, Tuesday’s meeting was postponed at the request of lawyers, with the club’s majority shareholders, who are from Saudi Arabia, keen to keep Kuyt in charge at least for the foreseeable future.
It is suggested that, if Kuyt was let go, he would be paid the remainder of his contact, which, after it was extended, runs until 2026.
Via Yahoo, the Dutchman spoke after his side’s draw with Westerlo at the weekend and complained of having no training ground, with the club’s stadium, the Olympic Stadium, doubling up for games and training after Kuyt deemed the previous training ground unplayable.
Beerschot won the league last year but currently have just two points from 10 games played
Next up for the club it’s Anderlecht, with the international break coming at a good time for Kuyt and Co as they look to finally kickstart their season following the dismal beginning to the campaign.
It is understood that it is hoped that the 2-2 draw with Westerlo, who are sixth in the league, will help that happen.
Kuyt scored 71 goals in 285 appearances for Liverpool, winning the League Cup during his time at the club.
