Former NFL player Buster Skrine ‘is arrested after allegedly defrauding Canadian banks for more than $100,000’

Former Tennessee Titans defensive back Buster Skrine was reportedly arrested while in Canada Wednesday. 

Canadian police say he defrauded various banks throughout Canada of more than $100,000, according to multiple reports.

The 34-year-old has been leveled with 14 charges following a police fraud investigation which concluded Wednesday. 

Durhamregion.com reports that Skrine was arrested at Pearson International Airport – in Mississauga, Ontario – thanks to Homeland Security, US Customs and Border Protection and the Peel Regional Police.

The outlet reported that police allege Skrine went to several Canadian banks, identifying as the ex-NFL player he is before opening accounts with fraudulent checks, then acquiring a portion of said checks before they cleared.

Fourteen charges were leveled against Skrine including four counts of fraud, seven of making false statements as a means of obtaining money and three of possessing property obtained via crime in excess of – and less than – $5,000.

Multiple reports state Skrine was held for an upcoming bail hearing.  

Skrine played 11 seasons in the National Football League. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2011 Draft by Cleveland. 

After four seasons with the Browns, Skrine signed with the Jets where he played three years. 

Short stints with Chicago, San Francisco and Tennessee followed before Skrine announced his retirement on July 26, 2022.
