Former teacher detained at Mexican border with outstanding warrants

A former Texas high school teacher who had a relationship with a student was arrested at the Mexican border on Wednesday.

Aracely Sauceda, 24, had an outstanding felony warrant from the Burelson County Sheriff’s Office and was found at the Progreso International Bridge. 

‘CBP officers are committed to protecting our country and communities as they remain vigilant in intercepting travelers with outstanding warrants,’ said Port Director Walter Weaver, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry to News 4 San Antonio. ‘I commend our officers for this noteworthy apprehension.’ 

The former educator was detained as she walked across the Progreso International Bridge while returning from Mexico.

She had been flagged as a possible match to an outstanding warrant when officers found that she was wanted in Burelson County for having a relationship with a student.

Sauceda was a Spanish teacher at Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Texas, in September 2017 when students began gossiping about a relationship she had with a 16-year-old male student.

District employees investigated and notified the sheriff and the Santa Rosa, Texas, native offered her resignation on September 18. 

But Sauceda hasn’t been the only teacher at the school under scrutiny for inappropriate behavior with students.

Jamie Lynn Goforth, 37, turned herself into the authorities on Sunday for having a relationship with a 15-year-old boy in October. 

The science teacher was released from Burleson County Jail after fronting $10,000 bail, The Eagle reports.  

An improper relationship between an educator and a student can lead to up to 20 years in prison as it is a second-degree felony.
