Former top cop, 73, is charged with bashing a female 22-year-old family member in his own home on Sydney’s northern beaches

A former top cop has been arrested and charged with bashing a female member of his own family. 

Terry Griffin, 73, is accused of assaulting a 22-year-old woman at a home on Mactier Street, Narrabeen, in Sydney’s northern beaches, about 6pm on Saturday.

Officers from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to the home after they received reports of an alleged assault, 2GB reported. 

Radio host Chris Smith revealed the claims on his radio program on Monday, after whisteblowers allegedly contacted the radio program.

Mr Smith said police spoke with the 22-year-old woman, however, she wasn’t injured during the alleged incident. 

A 73-year-old man has since been arrested and taken into custody, the radio host said.

An Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against Terence Griffin has also allegedly been taken out by a woman.

Griffin was previously the chief of the NSW Police Integrity Commission, which was established after the Royal Commission into the New South Wales Police Service took place between 1995 and 1997.

The organisation was responsible for the prevention, detection and investigation of alleged serious misconduct in the Police Force. 

Griffin has since been granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on March 5.
