Fortnite has been taken offline as the developers behind the title roll-out an update to commemorate the first anniversary of the hugely-successful video game.
Fortnite v5.1 is being readied by software developer Epic Games, which is set to bring limited time missions as well as a new in-game weaponry, skins and content.
The game went down this morning a little after 9am BST (4am ET).
To coincide with the worldwide outage, Epic Games published the patch notes for the latest update, which reveals birthday cake will be dotted throughout the playable area in the game.
Fortnite first launched on July 25 2017, with the latest update marking a year since its initial release date. As a result, the birthday cake distributed throughout the game after the latest update has a large number ‘1’ candle on its top.
It remains unclear how long the game will be offline before players can access the new content being added to the title.
Previous downtime has spanned anywhere from a couple of hours to an entire day.

By completing all the challenges, players will earn the ‘Birthday Cake Black Bling’.
On the official Epic Games website, it said: ‘Starting July 24th, we’ll be celebrating #Fortnite1st with a limited time in-game event! You can earn special birthday cosmetics by completing birthday challenges and quests in-game.
