Fears for four children ‘unaccounted for’ after house fire in western Melbourne as father, mother and young boy escape blaze with serious injuries

Four people are ‘unaccounted for’ and three people are in hospital after a fire ripped through a home in western Melbourne. 

Emergency services were called to a house fire at a Mantello Drive property, in Werribee, just after 1am on Sunday. 

A man, woman, and eight year-old boy managed to escape the blaze, but fears remain for four people – believed to be children – who remain missing.

The man, woman and boy were all rushed to hospital for treatment.

The man suffered smoke-related serious injuries while the woman is being treated for smoke inhalation. The boy sustained minor injuries.  

Witnesses told 7News four children who are yet to be found were in the house at the time of the fire.

They said the father was in the street crying out ‘my kids are gone’ as the home was engulfed by flames.  

Arson squad detectives are at the scene and have launched an investigation into the blaze. 

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
