France were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Canada in their final warm-up game ahead of Euro 2024.

Kylian Mbappe came on in the 74th minute for Les Bleus despite missing training on Saturday due to a minor back injury.

It was expected that Mbappe would miss the game but his involvement will be a major boost for Didier Deschamps.

Despite the result, Deschamps believes that there are still positives for France to take from the game.

Deschamps told TF1: ‘We had good adversity with intensity, we had some good chances in the first half, especially in the first half hour because the end of the first half was more difficult.

‘In second, we pushed even if with all the changes made, it is not ideal but it was important to distribute the playing time over these two preparation matches. There are other nations who are going to play the Euro and who have had difficult friendly matches. We will use this match to prepare for what awaits us in Germany.’

N’Golo Kante and Marcus Thuram both had efforts saved in the first half by Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.

Olivier Giroud made his final home appearance for France after announcing that he will retire from international football after Euro 2024.

Deschamps’ side beat Luxembourg 3-0 in their previous friendly, with Mbappe amongst the scorers in that game.
