Manchester United midfielder Fred is an important member of the Red Devils’ squad, according to interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Fred, 29, is among one of the club’s most ‘underestimated’ talents says the German, as he continues to ply his trade in the United engine room.

The Brazil international netted last weekend as Manchester United drew 1-1 at home against Leicester City in the Premier League.

But Fred was forced out of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Everton with a first-half injury.

Since his arrival four years ago, Fred has not shone in the limelight, but Rangnick believes he is highly beneficial for his side.

‘He’s the type of player that if you want to play a proactive style of football then he has a lot of assets that you need,’ Rangnick told United’s website.

‘He’s always trying to win balls and is always on the front foot. He’s one of the most underestimated players in possession of the ball.

‘He can score goals, give assists and that’s why he’s also regularly playing for Brazil. I’m not surprised at his development.’

The Brazilian arrived at Old Trafford in 2018 under Jose Mourinho’s reign, and despite starting off slow, he has gradually improved each term.

A three-time winner of the Ukrainian Premier League during a five-year stay with Shakhtar Donetsk, Fred is enjoying his strongest season this campaign, with four goals in 24 matches – a career best in the European leagues.

He will be aiming to help his side defeat Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday in the early kick-off, and look to inflict more misery on Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened side.
