In the past seven years the university has taught over 8,000 people the tricks of the travel trade through more than 30 educational seminars and conferences both in the US and in Europe.
Airline miles programmes are the cornerstone to travelling more cheaply and a growing number of people are realising the potential if you know how the systems work.
For instance Brian Kelly hit the headlines last year after he used millions of miles to travel the globe for nothing.
He’s now known as the Points Guy and has 164,000 followers on Instagram alone.
But finding inventive ways to collect airline miles, and navigating the complicated paths to redeeming them, is a skill set not many have the time to figure out, which is where the university comes in. It teaches holidaymakers how to use them to get upgrades, cheaper tickets and other perks.
The university brings together the top travel experts for its conferences, which have talks on subjects like ‘How to book the cheapest flight possible’ and ‘A Road Warrior’s Guide to Business Travel and Loyalty Programmes’.
Its speakers have made a name, and a living, for themselves as travel bloggers, TV travel presenters and photographers.

They include columnist and author Chris McGinnis, who has a following of over 200,000 on his Travelskills blog, and ‘Johnny Jet’, who has built a following for his money-saving travel advice.
Anyone can get something out of the programme, whether you’re looking for ways to afford a private jet experience or just want to turn left instead of right when getting on a plane, the university claims.
But it’s not just about cheap flights.
The university says that it helps to ease the entire travel experience with advice on gadgets and clothes as well as offering to teach travellers how to access airline lounges at airports, how to stay at luxury hotels, and get the VIP treatment when you book in – all on an economy budget.
The Frequent Traveler University recently touched down in Chicago for a two day conference, its largest yet.
