Friends of England Lion Kieran Trippier slam his wife for timing of cryptic message during the squad’s stuttering Euros start – saying ‘What on earth was Charlotte playing at? Why would she do that?’

England’s performance this tournament may have been lacklustre so far – but off the pitch there is plenty of drama… thanks to the Wags.

As the squad prepared to take on Slovenia in what turned out to be a bore draw on Tuesday night, Charlotte Trippier, wife of Newcastle star Kieran, posted a cryptic message on Instagram.

She wrote: ‘Sooner or later you get over the s*** you swore you’d never get over and it’s the best feeling in the world.’

And now the Mail can reveal that friends of the fullback, 33, are furious at her decision to share the post – particularly as it was on the day of an England game where the team were going to be put under so much scrutiny.

While she quickly removed the post, it also prompted fans to look and discover that she was no longer following her husband on the social media platform.

While it is not categorically known that the post was aimed at Trippier, he is believed to have acknowledged it as being so.

One said: ‘What on earth was Charlotte playing at? Why would she do that? She might not be in Germany but she knows full well the ramifications of her post.

‘They have always been a private couple so to do this on such a big day, when England are under so much criticism for how they are playing seems ill thought-out.’

While those close to the player say his wife’s outburst has not affected his game, one pal added: ‘It is far from ideal, there was absolutely no need to put their marriage out into the public domain like this.’

Mrs Trippier later told her followers she was doing the school run with her son, eight, and daughter, five.

The couple also have a third child, born in 2022. None have been flown to Germany to watch their father play, unlike many of the other players’ children.

In previous years, Mrs Trippier has cheered her husband on from the stands and the couple also regularly went on holiday with Harry Kane and his wife Kate.

The two couples are thought to have become close when Trippier and Kane both played for Tottenham.

The Trippiers wed in a lavish ceremony in Cyprus in 2016 — the same year their son was born.

Last year, Mrs Tripper told of her ‘hidden’ struggle during the player’s stint in Madrid in Prime Video documentary series, We Are Newcastle United. She candidly admitted that her husband’s 2019 move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid left her ‘lonely’ and ‘depressed’.

The Trippier saga came after it was revealed Kyle Walker’s wife Annie Kilner was furious that the Manchester City star’s former lover Lauryn Goodman was going to Germany to watch England take on Denmark with their son.

Ms Kilner’s publicist has repeatedly been briefing of her disgust at Ms Goodman’s decision to take four-year-old Kairo to see his father play.

Mother-of-four Ms Kilner was also notably absent from Cologne to watch her husband play on Tuesday night.
