Frightening moment a motorcyclist is threatened by an aggressive driver waving a ‘gun’

A motorcyclist has been left shaken after a minor road dispute resulted in him having what appeared to be a shot gun waved in his face by a fellow road-user.

Christoph Hoppen was heading down single-lane Winterfold Road in Hilton, south west of Perth, when he gave a ‘two figure salute’ to a driver he claimed tried to unsafely overtake him on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly after the brief encounter, as the 39-year-old digital designer was about to make a right turn into Chadwick Street, he saw what looked like the shape of a gun emerge out the driver’s window towards him, Seven News reported.

‘He drove past me, shouted something and had what looked like a handgun and waved it out the window. [He] said ‘what do you want’ or something to that effect … and he kept going,’ Mr Hoppen said.

In a last-minute decision, the motorcyclist switched on his helmet camera and captured the white sedan as it was driving away.

While the footage was too blurry to make out the car’s registration, the image of the potentially lethal object alone was enough to leave Mr Hoppen ‘flabbergasted’.

‘We’ve all seen them on TV, it looked like a Glock, long square barrel and just freaky,’ he said.

‘I didn’t think anything was going to happen. I was just flabbergasted that somebody pulls out [what looks like] a gun in suburban Hilton. It’s not New York or London or whatever, it’s Freo.’

The incident has been reported to police, who are currently searching for the driver of a white Ford Falcon sedan.

Mr Hoppen conceded ‘people can’t drive in Perth’ but thought driving with a firearm in the car was completely ridiculous.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
