Aquariums, bookshops and museums may not be the traditional place to enjoy a romantic rendezvous.
But according to experts, Gen-Z singletons are shaking up the dating scenes with meet-ups in unusual locations.
The trends experts at Pinterest have predicted that the younger generation are looking for alternatives to the traditional happy hour meet-up, and are seeking in the new year unique experiences and activities.
According to the 2023 Pinterest Predicts, searches for unique date ideas have skyrocketed on the picture sharing platform over the past two years, with a huge increase in ‘date picnic ideas’ by 385 per cent.

The second largest increase was for ‘aquarium date’, which have gone up by 235 per cent, followed by ‘bookshop date’ at 195 per cent and ‘creative date night ideas’ by 120 per cent.
And while dinner and drinks will never go out of fashion, this new trend highlights the positive impact that mixing up your date activities could have.
Gen Z have emerged as the savvy savers and these new dating ideas are brilliant ways to get to know each other without breaking the bank.
It appears to reflect how the the generation have survived the economic uncertainty of hiring freezes and layoffs.
And for fashion they have gone retro with romcom core inspired by 90s comedies such as Clueless, The Holiday and Sex in the City.
They want that main character energy that defined the movie industry in the 2000s.
That means upgrading everyday moments and making small habits, such as trips to the coffee shop, feel like a scene from their favourite romcom.
Popular searches have been ‘2000s girl’ with it rocketing by 235 per cent, followed by ‘summer outfits vintage 90s’ at 150 per cent and ‘pink mini skirt outfit’ by 145 per cent.
While 2023 is not just for the younger generation, Pinterest has revealed the rise of the YOLO Years.
Now restrictions have eased after the pandemic, Boomers and Gen X are determined to make the most of life.
In 2023 celebrations will take on a new meaning for this audience and they intend to be the life and soul of the party.
Searches in ‘Golden anniversary party’ have risen by 370 per cent and ‘Silver 25th anniversary cake’ by 245 per cent.
There has also been increases for both ‘100th birthday party ideas’ and ’80th birthday party decorations.’
