From glitterball dreams to comedy screens: Strictly star Sarah Hadland planning dance sitcom with Car Share writer

She’s fallen in love with the ballroom during her time on Strictly, and now Sarah Hadland is putting her new dance knowledge into a script for a brand-new television show.

The actress has revealed she is working on a script for a new comedy about a dance instructor with Peter Kay’s Car Share writer.

The 53-year-old said: ‘I would love to do some kind of comedy about a dancing teacher. That has always been my goal. Vito [her professional dance partner] could be in it, but I would love to be a dancing teacher.’

Mr Coppola, 32, suggested he could play the student.

‘No, you can’t be the student’, she said. ‘You’d have to be a speciality instructor coming in. You’d be the hot instructor. That’s the casting done.

‘But I would love to do something about the dance world and playing a dancing teacher. I would love to do that. That would be a big dream for me.’

The Job Lot star added: ‘I’m writing with Paul Coleman, who co-wrote Car Share and The Power of Parker, and we’re developing something at the minute on that idea. Watch this space. Hopefully something might happen.’

She also hinted that Miranda Hart, 51, would be involved.

‘Well, obviously, now that she’s, made it clear that she’s an expert on all the dance styles she would have to feature.’

The pair are close friends, with Ms Hart and Patricia Hodge even in the audience last night to cheer her on. 

Sarah scored 38 out of 40 for her Charleston to Popular from Wicked. 

Ms Hadland shared how supportive her former-co-star and friend had been: ‘She’s loved me doing this. Because I think when you love a show, we often watch the show together.

‘We have a massive WhatsApp group. I usually watch the final with her and Hodge. She said she’s enjoyed this year the most because of me being in it, and she’s been so involved with us. She sent us loads of videos.’

Meanwhile, professional dancer Carlos Gu has sustained an ankle injury and will be unable to participate in the Strictly Christmas Special alongside model Vogue Williams.

Fellow professional dancer Gorka Márquez will step in to partner with Vogue.

A Strictly spokesperson said: ‘We all wish him a speedy recovery’.
