I love the convenience of picking up a sundress for a barbecue along with the burgers, and now there’s even more style in the supermarket aisles since the big-hitters upped their game. Lidl’s fourth collection by supermodel Heidi Klum (below in black dress) goes on sale today, featuring womenswear – and mini-me versions for kids – inspired by California cool-fest Coachella.

Then there’s the Graduate Fashion Week/Tu clothing collaboration at Sainsbury’s, which was an instant sellout last year. This summer’s fashion-forward style at a snip harnesses the talents of Bath Spa University graduate Laura Gillings for womenswear and Nottingham Trent University alumna Amy Vanderwal with a men’s collection. And as the mercury rises, Tesco’s F&F label shifts fashion as swiftly as ice lollies, selling a tropical-print piece every 15 seconds and a pair of flip-flops a minute.

WHAT TO WEAR TO… Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre
One of summer’s most magical experiences. Think the Forest of Arden at twilight for Shakespeare’s As You Like It, from 6 July, or plants with attitude in hit musical Little Shop of Horrors, from 3 August. Dress relaxed and don’t forget your cover-up. openairtheatre.com.

NAME TO KNOW: OLIVIA RUBIN
Hurrah for the return of bright and beautiful brand Olivia Rubin. You may be familiar with the name after the success of her straight-out-of-fashion-college collections in the early 2000s. She has been taking time out to focus on family, but now she’s back, along with her signature bold prints, feminine dresses – I keep spotting this frothy lilac number (below, £299) on the fashion crowd – and floral trench coats. oliviarubinlondon.com.
