Fulham Gardens, Adelaide: Body found after massive blaze engulfed one-storey home in horror house fire

A person has died in a horror house fire in Adelaide’s western suburbs despite the efforts of hero neighbours and fire crews who battled the blaze.

Police and fire crews rushed to Shannon Street in Fulham Gardens at about 8am on Saturday after receiving reports of smoke and flames coming from the home.

The one-storey home was completely destroyed in the inferno.

Rocco Salerno, 73, who lives across the road with his wife Jane, said he had called triple-zero after he saw flames coming out of the front window.

‘I was just surprised, something I hadn’t seen before,’ he told The Advertiser.

‘There (have) been problems at that house previously, so I thought something was wrong. We didn’t know someone died there.’

Mr Salerno, who has lived on the street for more than 30 years, said they did not know the people in the house that burned down.

He recalled a separate incident at the property several years ago when another person aged ‘about 30 or 40 years old’ had died.

‘I think they had the room heater on and then something happened to him,’ he said.

Another local said she went pilates at around 7am and when she returned her husband had given their baby and dog to their neighbour.

She said her husband and another man had tried to smash the windows to see if anyone was inside the home but couldn’t find anyone.

‘The whole house was up in flames,’ she said.

SA Police and detectives remained at the scene until 3.30pm on Saturday.

Major Crime detectives have launched an investigation.
