Makes 8
- 300g (10½oz) strong white bread flour
- A pinch of salt
- 1tbsp fast-action dried yeast
- 1tsp caster sugar
- 190ml (6½fl oz) warm water
- 1tbsp olive oil
- 150ml (¼pt) tomato and basil pasta sauce
- 150g (5½oz) mixed grated Cheddar and mozzarella
- Capers from a jar, drained
- Toppings of your choice
Place the flour, salt, yeast and sugar in a bowl. Mix the water and oil together and stir into the flour until the mixture comes together.
Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place into a clean, lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean tea towel and leave in a warm place for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 240°C/fan 220°C/gas 9. Put a baking sheet in to preheat. Tip the dough onto a work surface and knead for 2-3 minutes. Divide into 8 equal-sized pieces and press each one into a 10cm circle.
Spread with sauce, sprinkle with cheese and add your toppings. For our funny face, we used courgette and capers for eyes, a tomato for a nose and pepper and capers for a mouth.
For a classic caper pizza, try Parma ham, artichokes (from a jar), watercress and capers. Bake on the preheated sheet for 12 minutes, or until crisp.
