Furious fans slam Socceroos after horror result leaves World Cup campaign in tatters: ‘Aussie men’s football is in crisis’

Frustrated fans have unleashed on the Socceroos – and coach Graham Arnold -following a tame 0-0 draw with Indonesia which has hindered their chances of qualifying directly for the 2026 World Cup.

Australia missed a hatful of chances across the 90 minutes in Jakarta, leaving Arnold’s men with just one point from their first two games.

It followed a shock 1-0 defeat against Bahrain on the Gold Coast last week. 

Needing a top-two spot to qualify directly, the winless Socceroos currently sit fifth in group C.

And supporters were quick to vent their fury on the Socceroos’ official Facebook page at fulltime. 

‘After these two performances I don’t Australia will qualify for the World Cup,’ one fan fumed.

Another posted: ‘Another deserved result. Absolute basic plan A with no plan B.’

A third weighed in with: ‘Australian men’s football is in crisis. That was just a disgrace.’

Jackson Irvine was his usual energetic self in midfield, but the Socceroos failed to find the back of the net in Jakarta

A fourth brutally said: ‘Arnie got bailed out by a dancing wiggle [Andrew Redmayne] last qualifying campaign when he was all but gone. There is no tactical identity. Nothing has changed. It’s time to go.’

Arnold conceded the tide needs to turn – and quickly.

It comes after Saudi Arabia (four points) beat China 2-1 despite being reduced to ten men while Japan (six points) hammered Bahrain 5-0.

‘There’s eight games to go and second spot’s on four [points] at the moment, so its not a disaster,’ Arnold said.

‘How many chances did we create? It’s been a common theme for over a year now.

‘The boys are in there (changerooms), they are filthy about the result.

‘I’ve got to go home and do a lot of thinking.’

The Socceroos are next in action against China in Adelaide on October 10, then take on Japan in Saitama five days later.
