Gary Neville slated his former club Manchester United during their 1-1 draw against Huddersfield on Sunday.

Scott McTominay gave the Red Devils the lead before Isaac Mbenza scored a shock equaliser.

The result meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will not play in the Champions League next season and Neville did not hold back as he laid into his former club.

Neville told Sky Sports: ‘This is not a team. The more I watch, this it’s not a team.

‘Do you know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the Tottenham team that Mauricio Pochettino picked up.

‘When it had [Emmanuel] Adebayor, [Younes] Kaboul, [Vlad] Chiriches and [Etienne] Capoue in midfield.

‘A group of players that looked like individuals, nothing there, no real spirit and he dismantled it piece by piece and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to dismantle this piece by piece.

‘It would be nice if the club got an experienced sporting director and recruit team to help him.

‘The shambles this week and the recruitment of that that’s appeared in the press doesn’t appear to have helped.’

Midway through the second half the United boss subbed on 19-year-old Tahith Chong for Alexis Sanchez and Neville thinks that might be the last we see of Sanchez at United.

Neville said: ‘Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer has had enough, “I’ll just stick a kid on, I might as well”. Is that the last time we see Alexis Sanchez in a United shirt? Walking down the tunnel at Huddersfield?’

When Mbenza scored, Neville continued his rant as he watched his side limp to a draw.

The Sky Sports pundit said: ‘Manchester United’s defence were always going to help them [Huddersfield] with avoiding that [being the only side in top flight history to not get into double figures of home goals].

‘They’ve [United] been better [in the second half] but they’ve set a pretty low bar.

‘This is Huddersfield Town who have struggled all season. Watch this Huddersfield team, they haven’t got the quality but I like watching them a lot more than watching the ones in the red shirts to be honest with you.

‘At least you can identify with them. Nothing about this United team I like at all. They’re just awful. They’re a despondent group of people. Luke Shaw doesn’t know whether to go with his left foot or his right foot [for the goal].’

‘Solskjaer is smiling at them they’re that bad. Manchester United’s away support will never stop singing but this group of players have even drained the energy out of them.’

The camera panned to United’s chief executive and Neville said: ‘He’s [Ed Woodward] had several of them [transfer windows] already so maybe it will be better this time.’

Neville’s point continued: ‘Ordinarily at this point in time you would say this is a real test for these Manchester United players, we will find out about them, but we already know.

‘It’s just how they will do in this 25 minutes. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got the job and they’ve just switched off haven’t they? They’ve just switched off simple as that. There can be no other explanation.’
