‘He needs to be sold… let’s just cut our losses’: Furious Man Utd fans single out Harry Maguire for criticism again after shocking Southampton display… and even compare £80m captain to notorious 90s flop William Prunier!
- Fans take to social media to criticise Manchester United captain Harry Maguire
- Red Devils supporters want to see the England international defender dropped
- United now sit fifth in the Premier League after 1-1 draw with Southampton
Manchester United fans have once again criticised Harry Maguire after his shocking performance against Southampton.
The United captain has come in for some intense criticism in recent weeks after some dismal individual form has coincided with a particularly bleak run for the Red Devils as a club.
The 1-1 draw with the Saints on Saturday was no different as United supporters have questioned the England internationals display.
Manchester United fans have criticised Harry Maguire’s ‘shocking performance’ against Southampton
Red Devils fans believe the England international needs to be either dropped or even sold
The Saints were incredibly bright at Old Trafford, with on-loan Chelsea striker Armand Broja continuing to make a serious impression.
He gave Maguire a torrid time as Southampton fought back from Jadon Sancho’s early goal to take a point against Ralf Rangnick’s men.
Supporters are now urging interim head coach Rangnick to drop the centre-back to help improve their fortunes as they push for a top four finish this season.
One fan stated: ‘I really want to see Lindelof get a proper run of games. Maguire has been making mistake after mistake and does not deserve to start, arm band or not.’
Another fan said: ‘He was expecting Broja to go down the line there, committed himself fully and was too slow to turn and adjust. We’re going nowhere with this guy, he’s a hindrance to the team in this form.’
One passionate fan took it to a higher level and believes Manchester United should look to sell Maguire, who they signed for £80million from Leicester City back in 2019.
‘He needs to be sold. There is no point desperately clinging on to the hope that he is good enough. Let’s cut our losses and move on.’
Fans are also questioning his pace, one fan posting on Twitter: ‘My great-grandmother is faster than Harry Maguire. She’s 102.’
One Red Devils supporters believes the 29-year-old needs to be sold rather than just dropped
Fans have also criticised how slow Maguire is and believe that proves costly for United
The Red Devils have won just two of their last six Premier League fixtures, leaving one fan to simply say Maguire sums up the club at the moment, and has even compared the 28-year-old to disaster trialist William Prunier from the 1990s.
Prunier had grown up in the same Auxerre team as Eric Cantona, but the pair’s reunion at Old Trafford was a spectacular failure.
His second and final appearance for United after arriving from Bordeaux was so bad that, like Massimo Taibi a few years later, he was never seen again.
Playing alongside Paul Parker and the Neville brothers in defence, Prunier could not stop Tottenham running riot in January 1996.
‘He perfectly sums us up as a club at the moment. He’s the biggest joke in the league week in and week out. Any other big club would have dropped him months ago, yet we made him captain. Up there with William Prunier for me.’
