A picture of a young girl left alone in the back of an unlocked car has sparked fury online.
The toddler was spotted sitting in a car seat in the back of the white Volkswagen with the window down at the Cairns’ Showgrounds Shopping Centre car park.
Another shopper was shocked when she saw the girl alone and kept an eye on the girl as she waited for the mother to return.

The witness told Yahoo when she asked the woman why she had left her alone for so long she was told to ‘f*** off’.
‘The fact she left her child in the car with the window down is not good at all,’ the woman said.
‘If we hadn’t stopped who knows what would have happened to the poor girl, she may have been on tonight’s news.
‘I was in the right place at the right time, there’s a lot of sick people out there.’
Kidsafe Queensland chief executive Susan Teerds said children should never be left alone in a vehicle under any circumstances.
‘It doesn’t take long for the heat inside a car to get 15 degrees in excess of the heat of the day, posing extra risk to children because they can’t regulate their body temperature.’
