Gabrielle Union set to star in new Screen Gems romantic comedy following an interracial relationship
Fresh off her judging duties on America’s Got Talent and her new show LA’s Finest, Gabrielle Union is returning to the big screen with a new film project.
The 46 year old actress has signed on to star in and produce a currently-untitled romantic comedy for Screen Gems, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will be written and directed by Chester Tam, with the story based on an actual romantic relationship he was in.

The official logline is being kept under wraps, but the story is said to explore a drunken one-night stand that somehow evolves into a ‘secret relationship.’
The relationship eventually goes public, surprising both the friends and family of both the newly-single African-American woman (Union) and a recently-divorced Asian-American man.

Union will also produce with Holly Shakoor Fleischer, Union’s producing partner on I’ll Have Another, along with with Tam and Trevor Engelson at Underground.
Union has been developing the spec script with Tam for over a year, with Screen Gems picking up the spec script.
The studio is currently seeking an actor with ‘comedic skills’ to play the couple’s other half alongside Union.

Union is coming off the the Universal Pictures thriller Breaking In, which hit theaters in 2018, but she’s mainly been keeping busy on the small screen.
Aside from her gig on America’s Got Talent and her new Spectrum Originals series LA’s Finest, she also voices Nala in the animated series The Lion Guard.
She also stars in and produces the ABC pilot White Dave, which will be executive produced by LeBron James.

Union is also attached to star in the upcoming movie The Perfect Find, which is currently in pre-production.
The story follows a woman who puts it all on the line, including her ‘high-stakes career, ticking biological clock and bank account’ for a ‘lusty secret romance with the one person who could destroy her comeback for good.’
Union’s hit series LA’s Finest has already been renewed for a second season on Spectrum Originals.
