Gabrielle Union called out for not including husband Dwyane Wade’s son Xavier at family event

Gabrielle Union sparked a debate in the comments section of a post capturing a recent family gathering.

A follower took issue with the absence of her husband Dwyane Wade’s son Xavier Zechariah Wade at the event and slammed Gabrielle for failing to ‘include’ the child, 10, in the event.

However several fans stood up for Gabrielle, 52, with one saying she had ‘no control’ over the child.

Wade, 42, shares Xavier with his ex, Basketball Wives alum Aja Metoyer. He was on a break with Union when the relationship with Aja began and their child was born in 2013.

He ultimately got back together with Union and they married in 2014. Their daughter Kaavia was born in 2018. Wade also has son Zaire, 22, and daughter Zaya, 17, with his ex-wife Siovaughn Funches, and he is also the guardian of his nephew Dahveon Morris, 21.

Union shared snaps last week from a party held ahead of her husband’s statue unveiling, which was attended by Kaavia, Zaire, Zaya, and Dahveon.

The post prompted one fan to comment, ‘Where’s the young son? Gabrielle, include the youngest son in these family events.’

One follower hit back: ‘She has no control over that he has a mother and it’s possible his mother doesn’t want him in the spotlight like that maybe consider that.’

Another replied: ‘You can’t include a child when you not their parent so it’s not up to Gabby not everybody want their child to be in the spot light!!’

In his 2021 memoir, Dwyane described maintaining a bond with his son Xavier, who does not live with him.

‘Xavier doesn’t live with me, so we don’t get to see each other every day like I do with my other kids,’ he said, according to an excerpt obtained by People.

‘It makes things challenging at times, but it’s my job to make sure he never has to carry that weight.’

‘It’s up to me to make sure he knows he’s being raised with love even if we don’t live under the same roof,’ he added.

‘And it’s up to me to let him know that while distance may physically separate us at times, I’m always going to be the man he can depend on to love him and help lead him.’

‘What I’ve come to learn over my life is that fatherhood isn’t a monolithic image that looks the same in every household. Each relationship is different. All I’m concerned about with Xavier is him always knowing he’s loved.’

Wade previously said the ‘hardest’ thing he ever had to do was tell Gabrielle he got another woman pregnant during their break.

‘I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t eating’ from the stress of having to inform Gabrielle, he said in his doc D. Wade: Life Unexpected, according to Entertainment Tonight.

‘I had a child with someone else and I had to tell her,’ said Dwyane.

‘Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is man up and tell Gabrielle Union that I’ve had a child with somebody else,’ he revealed.

‘When you hold something in that you know is going to come out and you have this information and you know it’s gonna f*** somebody’s life up, that you care about, that you love, if it don’t hurt you, then you’re not human,’ he said.

‘Me and Gab just went through something that you never want to go through and we still came out of it,’ said the sports hunk.
