Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna reunite for Spanish-language series on Hulu after starring together in 2001 Mexican road film ‘Y tu mamá también’

Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna will reunite for a Spanish-language series on Hulu after starring together in the 2001 film ‘Y tu mamá también’.

The Mexican actors will star in ‘La Máquina’ while also serving as producers under their La Corriente del Golfo production company.

Gael, 41, and Diego, 42, starred together in the coming-of-age Spanish-language film ‘Y tu mamá también’ along with Maribel Verdú, 51.

‘La Máquina’ will follow an aging boxer, portrayed by Gael, and his crafty manager, played by Diego, who secures him a title fight.

Searchlight Television is serving as the studio on the limited series that will stream in the US as a Hulu Original.

Marco Ramirez, who previously worked as a producer and co-showrunner on the Netflix series Daredevil, will be the showrunner for ‘La Máquina’.

Gael, Diego and Marco are world class storytellers and we look forward to bringing audiences their story and experiencing alongside them this last shot their characters get together,’ said Craig Erwich, president, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, in a statement.

Gael and Diego previously reunited for the 2008 Mexican comedy ‘Rudo y Cursi’.

They portrayed brothers in a farming village who compete against each other for a chance to try out for a soccer team in Mexico City.

Gael and Diego’s portrayal of teenage best friends in ‘Y tu mamá también’ helped make the critically acclaimed film a success at the box office.

Gael recently starred in the M. Night Shyamalan film Old and his film credits also include: The Motorcycle Diaries, Wasp Network, Chicuarotes, Coco, Museo, Ema, The Kindergarten Teacher, and Amores perros.

He can next be seen in the Amazon Studios film Cassandaro about the so-called ‘Liberace of Lucha Libre’.

Diego has a starring role in the upcoming Disney+ series Andor reprising his role as Cassian Andor from the 2016 Star Wars film Rogue One.
