‘Looking at the amount they’ve hoarded, a few families will be missing out on baby formula,’ the customer posted on Reddit.

When the customer returned to the supermarket after work the group were continuing to hoard the products.

‘They were still at it an hour later. Woolies had a fresh cart in the aisle and they were still helping themselves. Security guard at the self serve check out even waved one of the guys out after checking his receipt.’

A spokeswoman for Woolworths said they have a two-tin transaction limit on baby formula in place and their store teams work hard to ensure customers have access to stock when they need it.

‘Baby formula stock was available at our Victoria Harbour Melbourne all week, and remains available today.

‘We encourage any parents who find their chosen baby formula is unavailable on the shelves to speak with store management, so we can help get them stock as quickly as possible.’

Both Woolworths and Coles have two-tin limit per customer, as demand for the product has skyrocketed.

Hunger for trusted Australian branded baby formula has increased due to the popularity of Asian shoppers, known as daigous, buying in bulk to sell for a profit online to China.

Experts claim a whopping 30,000 tins of baby formula are being shipped to China each day, leaving Australian mothers desperately searching for their own supply.

There are an estimated 400,000 Chinese shoppers buying products in Australia.

Demand for Australian formula was boosted after an estimated 54,000 Chinese babies were hospitalised in 2008 due to contaminated Chinese formula.

Some international shoppers are happy to pay prices marked up to 1000 per cent, so sought after is the high-quality milk powder.
