Garden Rescue star issues ‘warning’ to viewers in defence of Charlie Dimmock’s braless appearance and his ‘hated’ vests

Garden Rescue star Lee Burkhill has ‘warned’ viewers who previously criticised him for his attire on the show to brace themselves before the new series starts.

Lee, 41, took to Instagram to address his followers ahead of the new season of the popular horticultural show,

Striking a confident pose in a blue vest to show of his array of tattoos, he wrote alongside the snap: ‘Guess what’s back Ninjas. VESTS! Haterz be warned.

‘The weather’s fine so out come the skinny boy tattooed arms! All shapes and sizes welcome at Garden Ninja!’

He continued by addressing fellow Garden Rescue star Charlie Dimmock, who became notorious for her choice to go braless while on TV in the 90s.

Lee pointed out how Charlie, 57, also came in for criticism for her choice of attire, as he quipped: ‘I bet Dimmock back in the day never got as much stick… oh wait??!’

Signing off the post, he added: ‘So here we go with the next season of Garden Rescue. With an assortment of sleeveless delectations for you all!’

His latest post on Instagram comes after he hit back at people who took a disliking to his ‘controversial’ outfits on previous episodes of the show.

Following an episode in September 2023, one irate user on X, formerly Twitter, blasted him for his choice of outfit, stating: ‘Wish you wouldn’t wear that awful vest which shows off far too much of your flesh. Wrong program for that attire.’

Lee responded by brushing off the comment, replying: ‘Hahaha I’m glad it’s causing so much fuss. Maybe focus on the plants more?

‘Be careful I’ll pair it up with my hyper short shorts and really give you all a show! Happy gardening!’

The presenter expanded on the disagreement on Instagram, sharing why he thought the comment was a homophobic attack.

He said: ‘Who knew a vest could become so controversial!

‘Seems like there’s a few outraged viewers that I dare… dare to wear a vest. Scandalous. Disgraceful. Provocative!

‘Whether it’s just those lovely hateful emails or just people having a rant on Twitter. Let’s have a look at why the humble vest may be causing such drama!

‘I’ve been having a think because – the landscapers can wear vests? Female identifying presenters can wear vests? But somehow I’m inappropriate?

‘Hmmm is there some subtle homophobia going on?

‘Am I just too delicious to handle at 3.45 in the afternoon? Will I corrupt your children to a punk way of life? Steal your husbands? Put you off gardening with fleshy desire?

‘Who knows. One thing for sure. Keep the comments coming and for every one I’ll reveal even more of who I am. Unapologetically Ninja.

‘You want my expertise but not my style? Sorry babe they come as a pair.’
