Gary Ablett Jr’s wife Jordan shares intimate details about life with their five-year-old son Levi who is battling a rare degenerative disease: ‘Everyone keeps asking how he’s doing’

Gary Ablett Jr’s wife Jordan has shared heartfelt details about life with son Levi, who has a rare degenerative disease.

In a candid interview with The Herald Sun on Thursday, Jordan spoke warmly of the beautiful bond forming between Levi, and his sister Grace and  brother Ezra.

‘Grace is now nearly two-and-a-half and they’ve got a super cute connection and even having Ez who is seven-months now, it’s nice to surround Levi with children,’ Jordan told the publication.

While the family cherishes the good times, Jordan acknowledged the growing complexities that come with Levi’s condition as he gets older.

‘Everyone keeps asking how he’s doing and he’s pretty much the same to be honest,’ she shared.

‘I feel like we sound a bit repetitive but he’s getting older and he’s growing which means there are more challenges that are arising but we’re managing.’

In an interview with the podcast The Significant Others in March 2021, Jordan spoke about the family’s heartbreak after Levi was diagnosed with a degenerative illness.

She said it took a long time for her son to be diagnosed with the unspecified disease, and detailed the devastation she and Gary felt after learning it was ‘life threatening’.

‘I just remember sitting with Gaz in that meeting and when they said it I just remember absolutely breaking down,’ she said.

After seeing a series of paediatricians, Jordan said it was the Geelong Football Club’s team doctor who finally put them in contact with the right person.

She said the new paediatrician ‘got the ball rolling’, and after months of concerns, the couple, who married in 2016, finally had some answers.

Jordan said she and Gary first became concerned after noticing Levi wasn’t reaching the same milestones as other children his age.

They decided to go public with the little boy’s condition because they didn’t want to have to lie when people asked about their son.
