Gary Barlow slammed for releasing confetti during concert

Gary Barlow has been slammed by campaigners for the ‘plastic’ confetti sprayed into the crowds at his concert at an eco-friendly venue.

Fans of the singer, 47, were drenched in thousands of multicoloured pieces at the sell-out Eden Project event in Cornwall on June 6.

While many of the 6,500 revelers were overjoyed with the confetti cannon – a Take That trademark – others were furious with the ‘littering’.

The Eden Project is an educational charity which promotes sustainable living and protection of the environment.

CornwallAgainstSUPlastic wrote on Twitter: @GaryBarlow I was appalled to see plastic confetti littering the Eden project after your last gig there.

‘What on earth was a plastic confetti canon doing there? In a place such as the Eden who are working so hard at getting rid of SU plastics’.

The organisation branded it an ‘epic blunder’ and called for ‘an apology in the form of action’ from the star.

A spokesman for Cornwall Against Plastic told Plymouth Live: ‘As a global voice, Gary Barlow has a responsibility.

‘Through his art and high profile, he could make such a difference in encouraging his audiences to support the ban of single-use plastics.

‘What on earth was he doing using plastic confetti canons at his gig?

‘Especially in a county and beautiful place such as the Eden Project, who are working so hard at getting rid of single-use plastics, which as we know have devastating impacts on wildlife and environment.

‘Get a grip Gary and use your talent in a more responsible manner.’

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Wonder how long it will be before it’s made it’s way to the sea and we’re picking it up @GaryBarlow. Come on, it’s really not rocket science. #Plastic and #Cornwall are not happy bedfellows’.

One enraged person wrote: ‘Things like this really annoy me! Lack of responsibility often!’

But many fans enjoyed the confetti during the concert.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘@GaryBarlow Much love to the confetti guy last night’.

Another reveller posted a picture of her on stage putting some of the confetti in Barlow’s hair.

She captioned the Twitter snap ‘Confetti moment! Lol x’

The Eden Project and representatives for Gary Barlow have been approached for comment.
