Gary Neville gives one major reason why he DOESN’T think England can go all the way and win the Euros ahead of their opener against Serbia

Gary Neville has revealed why he has doubts over England’s potential to go all the way and win Euro 2024. 

Gareth Southgate’s men kick-off their campaign on Sunday when the take on Serbia at the Veltins-Arena, home of Schalke. 

All 26 members of the Three Lions’ squad trained over the past few days after John Stones’ recovered from a bug. 

However, Neville believes England’s back four could prove their achilles heel in their bid to win the tournament. 

The former right-back told ITV Sport: ‘That is a massive opportunity for (Marc) Guehi, I think he’s an exciting young player. 

‘But when you think about sort of winning a tournament, unless this tournament is going to throw up something that previous tournaments haven’t, defensively you need to be strong to go the whole way. 

‘That is the massive worry of anybody I was hearing last night Roy (Keane) and Ian (Wright) referring to it, everyone is referring to England’s defence.

‘And I’m struggling in my mind at this moment in time to see, unless Gareth somehow finds a way to compensate for them, how we go all the way with that back four unless they play the game of their live every single games which i’m struggling to understand how it’s going to happen.’

An injury prevented Harry Maguire from competing at Euro 2024 after he was axed from England’s provisional squad.  

Meanwhile  Luke Shaw is working his way back to full fitness after four months on the sidelines and Stones has just recovered from an illness.

Lewis Dunk, who is now on standby to come into the side, earlier this week insisted the defence is not England’s weak point.

‘That is your opinion,’ he said when it was put to him. ‘Of course we are dismissing that. Inside the dressing room and inside the camp we are as confident as ever. We wouldn’t be here if the manager didn’t think we could play for England. I don’t see why that would be the case.’
