Gary Neville hits out at Jermaine Jenas and Jamie O’Hara after criticism of Tottenham

Gary Neville has slammed Jamie O’Hara and Jermaine Jenas after the former Tottenham players ripped into the club following their 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday night.

Spurs dropped points again after Michael Keane scored a stunning equaliser in the 90th minute to secure a crucial point for the Toffees.

However, it was the second time in a row Spurs had let a lead slip after they drew 3-3 with Southampton before the international break, having led 3-1 – a collapse that resulted in Antonio Conte’s stunning rant and ultimately led to his departure. 

Cristian Stellini’s side remain in fourth place following the result, but it has been a miserable campaign as supporters grew frustrated with the style of football under Conte, while they also crashed out of the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League in meek fashion to extend the club’s trophy drought.

Following the game at Goodison Park, Jenas – who made more than 200 appearances for Spurs between 2005-13, including eight in the Champions League – tweeted: ‘I can’t watch this team anymore ffs.’

Meanwhile, O’Hara played 56 times for the club after coming through the youth ranks before his career played out mainly in the Football League and ended with National League South side Billericay Town.

Speaking on talkSPORT post-game, he had lambasted the squad and coaching staff as he fumed: ‘What a joke! I’m boiling and I know Spurs fans are absolutely boiling. 

‘It was a disgrace that last 15 minutes of that game. They should be ashamed of themselves to be walking into the dressing room at 1-1. 

‘What an earth are them players doing? Conte came in for a load of stick and how he said what he said and where he said what he said was wrong, but what is 100 per cent correct is this team has no desire, they can’t play under pressure. 

‘They are finished, they’ve got no character, they’re washed as a team. The quicker we get rid of all these bang average players and staff members and team the better Spurs are going to be. 

‘That sums up Spurs in a nutshell – what an earth are we doing? I’m sick of being a Spurs fan. I’m sick of it.’

And on Tuesday, Neville hit out at the criticism from the former Spurs players and insisted it was ironic given what they achieved at the club.

He tweeted: ‘Interesting seeing ex-Spurs players that never got near to Champions League places for years when they played for the club saying they can’t watch this current team now. 

‘Spurs are in 4th place currently ahead of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. Perspective!’

The result last night saw Spurs leapfrog Man United into fourth – although Erik ten Hag’s side do have two games in hand.

They return to action on Saturday as they entertain Roberto De Zerbi’s high-flying Brighton, before facing crunch fixtures against Newcastle, United and Liverpool at the end of April.
