Gary Oldman left fans in ‘tears’ when he read the CBeebies bedtime story for 2024 Children In Need on Friday. 

The legendary actor, 66, read a true story specially written for the episode by Claire Taylor and with illustrations from Tim Budgen.

The story told a tale that aimed to inspire ‘warmth and encouragement and hope.’

Sharing their thoughts on X, viewers praised ‘brilliant’ Gary and said the story ‘made them cry.’

They wrote: ‘How brilliant was Gary Oldman reading the CBeebies bedtime story for Children In Need’; ‘Gary Oldman reading that bedtime story on Children in Need didn’t make me cry at all.’

Other added: ‘Not me crying at Gary Oldman reading a bedtime story on Children In Need’; ‘I b*****y love Gary Oldman.’

Speaking ahead of his appearance, Gary said: ‘Stories have a unique way of inspiring imagination and hope in young minds. Hope for young people seems particularly in short supply these days.

‘So I am very honoured to be reading this very special CBeebies Bedtime Story for BBC Children in Need. I hope our story brings warmth and encouragement and hope to children and families watching on the night.’

The TV personality, 35, showed off her incredible figure in a brown figure-hugging gown and heels.

She accessorised with dainty gold jewellery as she posed for snaps before the star-studded show kicked off. 

Vernon cut a dapper figure in a blue velvet blazer and black shirt while holding an adorable Pudsey Bear.

They joined Ade Adepitan MBE, Mel Giedroyc, Chris Ramsay and Lenny Rush taking viewers through a star-studded evening of fun and and fundraising.

The hosts will lead an evening filled with star-studded sketches, musical acts, show-stopping performances and plenty of surprises from some of the UK’s most loved celebrities. 

Money raised during the 2024 appeal will help BBC Children in Need to continue working in communities across the four nations, funding amazing people in family centres, community spaces, youth clubs and refuges; homeless shelters, hospices and helplines . 

Elsewhere, Paddy McGuinness choked back tears after he completed his brutal 300 mile charity cycle which saw him raise a whopping £7,556,853 on Friday.
