An alligator has been caught on camera while climbing over a tall fence in Florida.

Footage posted on Facebook shows the huge reptile moving from one side of the street to the other in front of stunned onlookers.

The incident happened at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) last Saturday.

Christina Stewart, who filmed and shared the video, can be heard saying: ‘There it goes…over the fence.’ 

‘Over the fence it went.’

A Facebook user commented: ‘Amazing Christina!! I have never seen anything like this before with alligators! Thank you for sharing!’ 

Another person wrote: ‘I’m screwed. I can’t even climb a fence.’

Last week, an eight-foot-long alligator was filmed crossing a busy Florida roadway during a rainstorm.

There are about 1.3 million alligators in Florida, both in captivity and in the wild, Visit Florida reports.

Visitors are advised to remain at least 50 feet away from the reptiles when looking at them or taking a photo.
