Gay marriage backer tells No campaigners they’ll die soon

A woman was caught on camera telling opponents of same-sex marriage they were going to die soon.

In a bizarre exchange,  she confronts the ‘No’ case campaigners at a Gold Coast intersection in south-east Queensland and aggressively asks them if they have pets.

‘Wait. Do you have a pet dog? Do you have any animals? Stop. Do you have animals?’ she asked, clapping her hands.

‘If you honestly have animals, how can yous say you can’t love a different woman or a man or anyone when you love your f***ing dog?’

After a two minutes, this woman then tells the people holding ‘It’s OK to say No’ signs they didn’t have long to live anyway.

‘You’re going to die soon. Yous are all going to die soon because it’s our generation that lives with your decisions,’ she said.

The confrontation on the Gold Coast Highway, at Biggera Waters, takes a nasty turn as a tattooed man accompanying her suggests the ‘No’ case campaigners had been sexually molested as children.

‘You look gay yourself. Did you get touched by a bad man?,’ he asked.

‘Did yous all get touched? That’s what’s wrong with you?

‘You’ve got “sex” written on a sign on the side of the road, where kids are seeing it, mate. And you’re worried about sex education in schools.’

The Australian Family Association, a non-profit Christian group, posted the three-minute video footage, taken on a smart phone, on its Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon as voting closed for the $122 million same-sex marriage postal vote.

They told their social media followers the protesters had forcibly removed their signs shortly after 2pm, as the rest of Australia was preparing to watch the Melbourne Cup.

‘Police moved in on at 3.30 claiming our tall sign was a traffic hazard so we packed up,’ it said.

‘Strange since the whole area has signs everywhere.’

In an act of intolerance, the man ambushing them mocks the religious faith of the campaigners with a southern American accent.

‘The Bible says it’s bad,’ he said, before physically confronting a man holding a camera phone.

The plea for ‘civility and respect for a change’ fell on deaf ears.

‘It is the right to have a different opinion,’ a ‘No’ case supporter said.

The tattooed man and the woman respond by suggesting the ‘No’ case supporters would disown their gay grandchildren, even though they had voiced support for same-sex civil unions during the confrontation.

The ambush has capped off an ugly campaign on redefining the Marriage Act, which has seen bad behaviour from supporters and opponents of gay matrimony.

Gay marriage supporters have been filmed in Sydney’s south-west and north shore making seemingly racist comments to ‘No’ case supporters.
