Gayle King celebrated 11 years at CBS Mornings on Monday by donning the same yellow and white dress she wore on her first day — and every anniversary after.
The $695 Alex Kramer sheath has become a signature look for the co-host, who originally picked it out for her debut on the show on January 9, 2012. More than a decade later, she’s still a fan.
Every year on January 9, she slips back into the frock to mark another anniversary with the program, which was previously called CBS This Morning.
‘When I put it on this morning, James, our wardrobe guy said, “Did you try it on?”‘ King, 68, recalled. ‘I go, “No, I’m just praying to sweet Black baby Jesus that it fits.”‘

King’s colleagues showered her with love on Monday, including her co-host Nate Burleson, who led the on-air tribute.
‘So it’s January 9th, which is a very special day around here. It should be a holiday because it’s Gayle’s 11th anniversary at CBS News,’ he said before calling attention to her outfit.
‘Her yellow dress, which she looks beautiful in, may look a little familiar. It’s the same dress that she wore on her very first day, and she wears it every year on her anniversary here to mark the occasion.

‘Gayle, in addition to the sweet treats that we put right here on this table, we put together a little something to celebrate you,’ he told the broadcast journalist.
Burleson then cued to a montage of her best on-air moments over the past year in honor of her anniversary.
The co-hosts were joined by guest and fellow journalist Deborah Norville, who was on the show celebrating Inside Edition’s 35th season.
King toasted to their respective milestones while contemplating her future with CBS Mornings.

‘Here’s to another 11 I hope, I hope,’ she said, pausing. ‘Do I hope another 11? I hope for another 11. I wanna be here.’
She also showed her gratitude for the flower cupcakes from Whole Foods that were gifted to her on Monday, thanking both Burleson and Norville.
King took to Instagram after the show to share photos from her work anniversary, including a sweet snapshot of Burleson presenting her a cupcake while on bended knee.
‘Nope @nateburleson is NOT proposing … he “be” very happily married! But ELEVEN great years @cbsmornings is worth celebrating! My anniversary dress gets another showing on this day only! Cupcakes for EVERYBODY!! Thanx CBS!!!’ she wrote in the caption.

King’s anniversary comes a little over a week after she and her bestie Oprah Winfrey rang in 2023 with a 10-mile ‘gratitude’ hike with family and friends in Hawaii on New Year’s Day.
Winfrey, 68, poked fun at her closest pal by sharing footage of her struggling to make her way up the mountain.
‘Somebody take my backpack. It’s very heavy,’ King said at one point during the trek.

A few days later, the media mogul dragged her out for another lengthy hike, which may have helped her fit back into her yellow dress this week.

The mother of two also celebrated her big day with friends in New York, with her colleagues on CBS Mornings, and in California with her son William Bumpus Jr. her daughter Kirby Bumpus, her son-in-law Virgil Miller, and her grandson Luca.
King was treated to plenty of cake, as well as a performance from The Temptations, who serenaded her in yellow suits.
‘2022 ended [with] not one but THREE birthday celebrations!’ she wrote on Instagram. ‘New York! [California] & Hawaii … with all of my favorite peeps but biggest surprise last photo came swipe left from @thetemptations.
‘How did they know my favorite color is YELLOW! New year off to a great start I’d say… I feel the love…’
