Geelong night stalker filmed breaking into family home as children sleep

Chilling CCTV footage shows ‘night stalker’ breaking into family home as young children sleep – as police reveal masked mystery man has targeted several properties… without stealing a thing

  • ‘Night stalker’ was filmed entering a property in Geelong
  • The man spent six minutes inside but didn’t steal anything
  • He tried to carry out several break-ins nearby

Chilling footage has captured the moment a so-called ‘night stalker’ broke into a family home as young children slept – before leaving empty handed.

The unidentified man has been terrorising residents of Geelong, southwest of Melbourne, after breaking into the homes of two people, and trying to enter more than 20 other properties.

While eerie CCTV has captured him standing at residents’ front doors in the middle of the night trying to find a way inside, police are yet to track him down.

What’s stranger is that the ‘night stalker’ doesn’t steal or damage any property but instead wanders around for minutes on end before leaving without a trace.

In one of his latest stints, the man is seen entering a property in Bell Post Hill, before spending six minutes inside.

The man even took his shoes off before entering the family home.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Gavin Mullins said a special team of officers has been set up to try and catch the stalker.

‘He’s spent five to six minutes in the houses,’ he told A Current Affair.

‘(He) hasn’t touched or stolen anything, hasn’t damaged any property, hasn’t made any contact with the people and then he’s just left the premises.

‘Until we understand his motivation, we are concerned and we are very keen to speak to him to understand a little bit more.’

The police are appealing to the public to help catch the unnerving figure, who is believed to have been carrying out his break-ins for several months.

The ‘Geelong stalker’ has been the subject of over several sightings since January 29 across Geelong, Werribee and Torquay.

His ability to evade capture has created fear among residents.

He is often seen in a tracksuit with a wide-brimmed hat on.

While he often wears a face mask, during one attempted break and enter, he showed his full face with police hoping it will mean the end of his stalking.

Criminal psychologist Tim Watson-Munro said it was possible the man’s motive was of a sexual nature.

‘We’re not dealing with a crazy person. We’re dealing with somebody who is well organised, who clearly has rather bizarre motivations,’ he said.

‘I think part of his motivation is that he’s obviously enjoying the notoriety. He’s enjoying not being caught.’

Divisional Response Unit detectives released CCTV images of the man on March 20 and pleaded for help in trying to identify him, with stills showing him for the first time without the surgical mask he has traditionally worn.

Theories from residents have spread online and in local newspapers attempting to pinpoint where the stalker lives.
