General Hospital’s Adam J. Harrington confirms exit from ABC soap after his character gets shot twice: ‘It was a BLAST, literally!’

General Hospital star Adam J. Harrington confirmed he was exiting the long-running ABC soap opera after 63 episodes of him portraying John ‘Jagger’ Cates.

The Canadian 51-year-old took over the role previously played by Antonio Sabato, Jr. from 1992 to 1995 when the character reemerged in Port Charles as an FBI agent in February.

Fans feared for John’s fate after mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) shot him twice during a rainy confrontation in last Friday’s episode.

John had wanted Sonny to turn himself in and Sonny was outraged over him going after members of his family.

‘Well @GeneralHospital it was a BLAST, literally!’ Adam – who boasts 18K Instagram/X followers – tweeted Sunday in a pun-filled farewell.

‘To @valentinifrank, producers and writers. Thank you for the SHOT at joining your world. I loved it. To the phenomenal cast and crew. It was a honor to witness the CALIBER of your work. Now, seriously, I will miss you all.’

Harrington followed it up with a message to the devoted General Hospital viewers and fans: ‘It’s been a honor being in your world, and feeling your passion. To those who have written a goodbye, I’ve read every word and I’m deeply humbled. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Until we meet again. ‘

The avid surfer and Robert Craighead will next appear at a live signing event for the video game God of War on September 12 at 3pm PST via Instagram and Facebook.

Adam also portrayed Agent Stevens in two episodes of Abe Sylvia’s 1969-set star-studded satirical soap Palm Royale, which Apple TV+ officially renewed for a second season in June.

Harrington – who reportedly holds a master’s degree in marine biology – is also known for his roles in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, Hulu film Boston Strangler, CTV’s Whistler, and Showtime’s Queer as Folk.

Fans can catch more of General Hospital weekdays on ABC.
