The Las Vegas Raiders will have Geno Smith under contract for the next three seasons after the quarterback agreed a new two-year extension on Thursday.

Smith will sign an agreement worth $85.5m with $66.5m guaranteed, making him a Raider until 2027.

Tom Brady’s Raiders traded for the quarterback from Seattle in March in a move that sees Smith reunite with former head coach Pete Carroll.

The 34-year-old arrived in Vegas with one year to go on a three-month contract with was worth $31m.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport was first to report Smith’s two-year extension.

Smith’s arrival is the standout move in an offseason of upheaval in Vegas that seven-time Super Bowl winner Brady has spearheaded.

As well as recruiting both Smith and Carroll, Brady also handed a new three-year, $106.5m deal to star defensive end Maxx Crosby.

The rebuild will continue at the NFL Draft in Green Bay later this month, where the Raiders hold the No. 6 pick and are widely expected to go for running back Ashton Jeanty.

The Raiders endured a miserable 2024 campaign, missing out on the playoffs with an awful 4-13 record in the packed AFC West.

Antonio Piece was fired as head coach and general manager Tom Telesco promptly followed him out of the exit door as Brady pulled rank.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew also left the team and signed for AFC West rivals Kansas City Chiefs, where he will provide backup to Patrick Mahomes.

Smith, meanwhile, was selected by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, spending two years as an inconsistent starter.

He bounced around the league with the Giants and Chargers before finding a new lease of life in Seattle after being traded there in 2019.

He took over from Russell Wilson as starter in 2022 and posted career-best stats, throwing for 4,282 yards and a 30-11 TD-INT ratio.
